99％のArgument Task テンプレートは、以下の構造をとります：
第1段落：自分の主張
第2段落：原文のpremise（根拠）のミスを指摘
第3段落：原文のAssumption（仮定）のミスを指摘
第4段落：原文のAssumption（仮定）を強化する方法を書く
第5段落：結論

「省エネは必要か」を例に例で見てみましょう。このテンプレートを休憩時間に紙に書いておきましょう。そうすれば、本番でパニクらずにできます。

第1段落：自分の主張を述べる

Energy conservation has become a hot topic as of late. There are those who debate climate change and those who affirm it, those who assert that humans are depleting the world's natural resources, including fossil fuels, and those who believe that humans are barely making a dent in consuming the resources the earth has to offer. In the preceding statement, the author claims that＋筆者の主張の言い直し. Though his claim may well have merit, the author presents a poorly reasoned argument, based on several questionable premises and assumptions, and based solely on the evidence the author offers, we cannot accept his argument as valid.

この段落のコツ：

「I agree」や「I disagree」と書き出すと幼稚な感じになります。Argument Task では、他の受験者よりも目立つ必要がありますので、上のように表現を変えましょう。

また、"In the preceding statement, the author claims that＋筆者の主張の言い直し." と続けることで、自分が筆者の主張を理解していることを示します。

そして、"Though his claim" の後から、筆者の主張に異議を唱えます。賛成してもいいですが、異議を唱えたほうが書きやすいです。

ライティングでは、白黒はっきりさせるよりは、「別の視点から問題を見る」というスタンスでいきましょう。「筆者はこの問題に対し賛成かもしれないが、彼の論拠には欠陥がある」と主張するのです。

第2段落：元文のpremise（根拠）ミスを指摘

第2段落では、原文のpremiseに反論します：

The primary issue with the author's reasoning lies in his unsubstantiated premises. premiseのミスを2〜3点指摘。The author's premises, the basis for his argument, lack any legitimate evidentiary support and render his conclusion unacceptable.

この段落のコツ：
"first" や "second" ではなく、"primary" と "secondary" で他者と差をつけます。premise のミスは2〜3点指摘するのが普通ですが、説得力があれば1つでも十分。

第3段落：原文のAssumption（仮定）のミスを指摘

第3段落では、assumption（仮定）のミスを指摘します。

仮定をいくつかメモし、In addition などコンピューターが理解しやすい移行句で始めます：

In addition, the author makes several assumptions that remain unproven.

Assumption のミスを2〜3点挙げ、段落を締めくくります：

The author weakens his argument by making assumptions and failing to provide explication of the links between X and Y he assumes exists.

第4段落：原文のAssumption（仮定）を強化できる方法を書く

第4段落では、どうすれば筆者の仮定を強化できるかについて意見を述べます：

While the author does have several key issues in his argument's premises and assumptions, that is not to say that the entire argument is without base. 具体例を挙げる

以下のように段落を締めくくります：

Though there are several issues with the author's reasoning at present, with research and clarification, he could improve his argument significantly.

第5段落：結論

いよいよ結論を述べます。どんなお題にも対応できる文で締めくくると楽です。例えばこんな感じ↓

In sum, the author's illogical argument is based on unsupported premises and unsubstantiated assumptions that render his conclusion invalid.

If the author truly hopes to change his readers' minds on the issue, he would have to largely restructure his argument, fix the flaws in his logic, clearly explicate his assumptions, and provide evidentiary support. Without these things, his poorly reasoned argument will likely convince few people.
